The Khorfakkan Public Library, a subsidiary of Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), has reopened its doors to the public and resumed operation at full capacitysince Monday, August 24,2020. The library had been closed for the past three months in line with the UAE's precautionary measures to curb the spread of the novel corona virus pandemic (COVID-19).

Open from 8am to 8pm on weekdays,theKhorfakkan Public Library has stepped up its preventive and safety protocol that conforms to the UAE's mandatory guidelines to offer a safe environment to all library users and visitors. Members and guests can also look forward to a wide selection of inclusive titles available in different genres and multiple languages.

Eman Bushlaibi, Director of Sharjah Public Libraries (SPL), said "With Khorfakkan Public Library beginning to welcome visitors, all branches of SPL across Kalba, Wadi Al Helo, Al Dhaid and Dibba Al Hisn are now open. The move has reiterated SPL's dedication to bolstering the cultural offerings and elevating the knowledge of UAE's communities in a friendly environment that meets the highest health safety standards."

Recently, the Sharjah Public Library (SPL) launched the 'Smart Locker' service that facilitates the 24/7 borrowing of books via the SPL website. The books ordered through the Smart Locker will be reserved for three days and can be collected any time during this period. This new system is part of the integrated smart services launched by SPL and caters especially for the needs of members who are unableto visit during the opening hours of the library.

The Smart Locker service uses radio-frequency identification (RFID) technologythat allows members to use their Emirates ID or SPL's membership cards to collect and return books. SPL's Smart Locker consists of 38 lockers equipped with a touch screen that are connected to SPL's digital network and CCTVs.

Commenting on the launch of the new service, Eman Bushulaibi said "The Sharjah Public Library is a keen adopter of innovative technologies, which enables us to continually improve its patrons' user experience. Our Smart Locker service will offer its users an advanced personalised service, allowing members to engage with SPL's array of offerings in new and improved ways."
