Children Can about World Cultures at Sharjah Public Libraries Workshops

Workshops based on Chinese, Korean and French civilisations on offer, July 14 – 18

Sharjah, July XX, 2019

Sharjah Public Libraries (SPL), a Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), subsidiary is gearing up to bring the best of Chinese, Korean and French cultures to the UAE’s children (7–12 years), through a series of edutainment workshops, from July 14–18, themed around art, culture and environment. Their aim in arranging this unique summer activity for children is in line with Sharjah’s ambition to deepen the youth’s understanding of new cultures.

The ‘Chinese Culture Day’ will introduce participants to China’s rich and ancient history and language, and also shed light on a few fascinating similarities between Chinese and Arab cultures. Fun lessons on the use of chopsticks, Chinese tea rituals, their distinctive clothing, and how to write names using the Chinese alphabet will all be part of this workshop.

The ‘Let’s go to South Korea’ workshop will transport children to China’s eastern neighbour, teaching them about Korean language, traditions and culture – considered one of the oldest continuous cultures in the world. From visiting the nation’s beautiful historic places learning about traditional South Korean games, and other entertaining activities will be fun and educational in equal measure.

Finally, a visit to Europe’s cultural powerhouse – France – titled ‘French Time’ the workshop will be a great beginners lesson in basic French language reading and writing. Young participants will also have the opportunity to immerse in other aspects of the famous French culture.
