SPL hosts 4th ‘Majors Discipline Exhibition’ from September 28-29

The Sharjah Public Library (SPL) is bringing together a host of universities, colleges, institutions, and research facilities from across the UAE on September 28 & 29 for the fourth edition of its annual ‘Majors Discipline Exhibition’.
 
Organised at the headquarters of the Sharjah Book Authority, the two-day event aims to raise awareness amongst high school students and graduates of the emerging trends in the job market, and the academic majors that best match their interest and potential to make informed decisions on their prospective academic and professional plans.
 
Building on the success of its previous editions, the event will see the participation of 17 Emirati universities and educational entities. SPL will host a wide range of activities and workshops led by academics and experts on the sidelines of the event between 9:30am till 5pm. These will be held in Arabic on the opening day and in English on the concluding day. Participating entities will also offer special discounts and promotions throughout the event.
 
Six considerations
A lecture titled ‘Six considerations for choosing a University Major’, delivered by Dr. Fatima Al HasaniIn, will introduce students to the main considerations when choosing the right major or subject of study. The speaker will emphasise the importance of evaluating the interests, aspirations, abilities and skills of the student when selecting a major
 
During a discussion session, SPL will provide general tips and advice on the EmSat exam to help students achieve high scores and highlight its importance in the process of selecting a major.
 
Gateway to the future
At a seminar titled ‘Your major… the gateway to your future’, Prof. Mohammed Watfi will highlight the need for comprehensive planning and preparation in choosing the right major to facilitate their entry into the workforce.
 
Multiple paths
Eman Bushlaibi, Director of Sharjah Public Libraries, said: “The ‘Majors Discipline Exhibition’ connects students preparing to enter undergraduate programmes with universities and highlights the principal factors to consider when choosing quality, compelling courses. Being a freshman in a university opens up multiple paths for students and the right information and guidance are essential to broaden their understanding of opportunities and help students make the right decision. Therefore, we invite students to take advantage of this two-day event designed as a road map towards building their professional careers.” 
 
Participants in the 4th edition of the exhibition include the foreign missions in the Ministry of Education, United Arab Emirates University, University of Sharjah, Higher Colleges of Technology, American University of Sharjah, International Horizons College, Global Pathways College, City University College of Ajman, Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Fatima College of Health Sciences in Ajman, Al Wasl University, Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University, Ajman University, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, Amity University, Al Qasimia University, and Success Point College.
